Everything You Need to Know in One Place
This page answers the most common questions about Pin Video Downloader — from how the tool works to copyright concerns to device-specific quirks. If your question isn’t here, contact us and we’ll either reply directly or add the answer to this page.
About the Tool
Is Pin Video Downloader really free?
Yes — completely free. There’s no premium version, no credit card required, no signup, no trial period that ends. We’re supported by tasteful, non-intrusive advertising on the website. The downloader tool itself works without restrictions.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Pin Video Downloader runs entirely in your web browser. There’s no app to install, no extension to add, no software to update. If you have a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave, etc.), the tool works.
Do I need to create an account?
No. We don’t have user accounts. There’s nothing to sign up for. Just paste a Pinterest URL and download.
Is this site affiliated with Pinterest?
No. Pin Video Downloader is an independent service with no affiliation, endorsement, or sponsorship from Pinterest, Inc. We’re a separate project that helps users save publicly available Pinterest content. “Pinterest” is a trademark of Pinterest, Inc., and we use the term descriptively (nominative fair use) — similar to how a “Twitter video downloader” tool might mention Twitter without being affiliated with the platform.
Why did you build this tool?
Pinterest doesn’t include a download option for videos, images, or GIFs in its app or website. The “Save” button only pins content to your Pinterest boards — it doesn’t put files on your device. We built this because saving inspiration offline is a reasonable thing to want and most existing tools either lie about quality, add watermarks, or aggressively monetize through popups. We wanted a clean, honest alternative.
How does it make money if it’s free?
Tasteful, non-intrusive advertising on the website pages. We never use popup ads, fake download buttons, or auto-redirects. The downloader tool itself shows zero ads — only the surrounding pages have ad placements, and those are clearly visual ads, not deceptive elements.
Quality and Formats
Will I get the original quality?
Yes — we deliver the original file Pinterest stored, never downscaled or re-encoded. Our quality label tells you exactly what you’ll get before you click Download. If a video was uploaded at 1080p, you get 1080p. If an image is 2400×3000 pixels, you get 2400×3000 pixels.
Why does my download sometimes have lower resolution than expected?
Pinterest stores whatever the original creator uploaded. If the source video was 720p, that’s the maximum quality available — nobody can get higher quality than what was uploaded. Some tools fake higher quality by upscaling (artificially adding pixels), but the result actually looks worse than the original. We refuse to do that.
Does it really download in 4K?
Sometimes — only if the source was uploaded in 4K. True 4K Pinterest videos exist but are uncommon (less than 5% of content). Most Pinterest videos are 720p or 1080p. The quality label in our tool tells you upfront what you’ll actually get. We never inflate the resolution claim. See our Pinterest 4K Video Downloader page for a deeper discussion.
What file formats do you deliver?
Whatever Pinterest stores natively:
- Videos: MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio (the most universal sub-format)
- Images: Original format — JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF depending on the upload
- GIFs: Either true
.giffiles or.mp4loops, depending on what Pinterest stored. Our GIF downloader honestly tells you which.
Will the file have audio?
Yes, if the original video had audio. Some Pinterest videos are deliberately silent (no audio track at all). Those download as silent MP4s. We don’t add or modify audio.
Does the downloaded file have a watermark?
No. We never add watermarks, overlays, logos, or “downloaded with X” stamps. The file you save is byte-identical to what Pinterest’s content servers deliver.
Devices and Compatibility
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. Pin Video Downloader works in Safari, Chrome, and any iOS browser. Downloaded videos save to your Files app, then you can move them to Photos. See our detailed iPhone guide.
Does it work on Android?
Yes. The tool works in Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox, and any Android browser on phones from any manufacturer (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc.). Downloads go to your Downloads folder. See our Android guide.
Does it work on Windows or Mac?
Yes — both. Any modern browser on Windows 10/11 or macOS Big Sur or newer will work. See our Windows guide and Mac guide.
Does it work on iPad and Android tablets?
Yes. Tablets use the same mobile browsers as phones, and our tool’s mobile-first design works equally well on tablet-sized screens.
Does it work in Chrome’s incognito mode / Safari’s private browsing?
Yes. The tool functions identically in private browsing modes. Downloads still save to your default Downloads folder.
What if I’m using an older device?
Anything with a web browser made in the last several years should work. The minimum requirements are: HTTPS support, JavaScript enabled, and a browser that supports the standard download attribute. iPhones from iOS 12+ and Android from version 8+ have all supported these for years.
Will it work on Linux or Chromebook?
Yes. The tool is browser-based, so the underlying operating system doesn’t matter. Chrome, Firefox, and Brave on Linux all work. Chromebooks (which are Chrome by default) also work.
Privacy and Data
Do you store the videos I download?
No. Your file flows directly from Pinterest’s servers to your device. We never see, store, or cache the file on our servers (with one exception — image and animated content downloads briefly pass through our server proxy due to browser cross-origin restrictions, but the file isn’t kept after delivery).
Do you log the URLs I submit?
No. We don’t keep records of which Pinterest URLs you’ve pasted into the tool. There’s no usage history, no download log, no per-user tracking.
Do you track me?
We use standard website analytics (Google Analytics) to understand how many people visit each page, which pages are most popular, and roughly where visitors come from geographically. This data is anonymized and aggregate. We don’t track individual users, build user profiles, or sell data to third parties.
What about cookies?
We use essential cookies (for the dark/light mode toggle and cookie consent), analytics cookies (Google Analytics), and advertising cookies (Google AdSense). You can manage these through our cookie consent banner. See our full Cookie Policy for details.
Can Pinterest see I used your tool?
Pinterest’s content servers see download requests, but they can’t tell those requests came from our tool specifically — the requests look like any other download. Pinterest doesn’t get any information about who you are unless you’re logged into Pinterest in the same browser.
Is the tool safe to use at work?
Technically yes — it’s a standard website with no installs, downloads, or unusual permissions. Whether you should use it during work hours depends on your employer’s policies on personal browsing. We can’t speak to that.
Troubleshooting
The tool isn’t working — what should I check?
Common things to verify:
- Is the URL correct? Make sure you copied the entire Pinterest URL, not just part of it.
- Is the pin public? Private and secret board pins can’t be downloaded by any tool.
- Is your internet stable? Try refreshing the page and pasting again.
- Are you using a modern browser? Update Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc. to the latest version.
- Are caches cleared? If you’ve been using the tool a lot, clear your browser cache.
If problems persist after these checks, contact us with the URL you tried.
Why did my download fail?
Common causes:
- The Pinterest URL was from a private or deleted pin
- The URL was copied incompletely (missing characters)
- Pinterest temporarily changed their platform (we usually fix within 24 hours)
- Your network blocked the download (corporate firewalls, public Wi-Fi)
Try copying the URL again from Pinterest. If multiple URLs all fail, please report it so we can investigate.
Why is the download slow?
Speed depends on three factors:
- Pinterest’s CDN response time — usually fast, occasionally slower
- Your internet connection speed — most Pinterest videos are 2-8 MB, which downloads in seconds even on slower connections
- The browser’s download handler — Chrome and Firefox are usually the fastest
If downloads consistently feel slow, try a different browser or test your internet speed.
My download finished but won’t open
Common reasons:
- The file is partially downloaded (interrupted before completion) — try again
- Your default video player doesn’t support the format — try VLC Media Player (free, plays everything)
- The file extension is wrong somehow — right-click, rename to add
.mp4if missing
If a downloaded file is consistently broken, the source on Pinterest may have an issue we can’t fix on our end.
Why does the same Pinterest URL work for some pins but not others?
Pinterest treats different pin types differently internally:
- Standard pins (most content) work consistently
- Story Pins (long-form videos) sometimes use a streaming format we can’t always extract
- Carousels (multi-image pins) only return the first image
- Idea Pins (multi-slide stories) aren’t currently supported
If a specific URL fails, the underlying pin type may have a limitation we’ve documented elsewhere.
Is there a way to retry a failed download?
Just click “Try another URL” and paste the same URL again. If the failure was transient, it’ll work the second time. If it consistently fails, the pin type or URL has a limitation.
Copyright and Legal
Is it legal to download Pinterest videos?
This depends on where you live and what you do with the downloaded content. In most jurisdictions:
- Personal viewing (saving for offline watching) is generally fine
- Republishing without permission can violate copyright law
- Commercial use of someone else’s content without licensing is usually illegal
You should only download content you own, content that’s licensed for free use (Creative Commons, etc.), or content for which you have the creator’s permission. See our full Disclaimer and Terms of Service for details. We’re not lawyers — when in doubt, consult a qualified professional.
Can I post Pinterest videos to my own Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube?
Be very careful here. Reposting another creator’s content without permission can:
- Violate copyright law (especially in the US, EU, and similar jurisdictions)
- Get you struck or banned from the platform you’re reposting to
- Hurt the original creator (who deserves credit and views)
If you want to share something, the right approach is usually to:
- Credit the original creator
- Get permission first when possible
- Use the platform’s own native sharing tools (which usually credit the source automatically)
What if I don’t know who the original creator is?
That’s a real challenge with Pinterest content — many pins lose their attribution as they’re repinned. If you can’t identify the creator and can’t get permission, the safest approach is to not republish the content. Save it for personal reference instead.
Are you responsible if I download something I shouldn’t have?
No. As stated in our Terms of Service, you’re solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to download any content you access through our tool. We provide the technical capability — what you do with it is your choice and your responsibility.
Can I file a DMCA takedown?
If you’re a copyright owner and believe content accessed through our tool infringes your rights, see our DMCA & Copyright Policy for the proper procedure. Note that we don’t host any content — content lives on Pinterest’s servers, and the most effective takedown is at the source (Pinterest’s copyright help center).
Special Cases
Can I download from private Pinterest boards?
No — and that’s by design. Our tool only works with publicly accessible Pinterest URLs. Content on private or secret boards isn’t accessible to anyone outside the board, and no legitimate tool can bypass that. If you own the board, you can make individual pins temporarily public, copy their URLs, then revert.
Can I download multiple videos at once?
Currently, no. The tool processes one URL at a time. We’ve intentionally not built a batch downloader because:
- Bulk downloading often violates platform terms of service
- It puts strain on our infrastructure and Pinterest’s servers
- It tends to be used for spam/scraping rather than legitimate use
For legitimate bulk needs (like downloading an entire board you own), Pinterest’s own export tool may help.
Does it work on Pinterest Idea Pins?
Not currently. Idea Pins (Pinterest’s TikTok-style multi-slide format) use a different data structure that the API we rely on doesn’t fully expose. We’re monitoring for updates from the API provider. For now, individual slides may work if they’re in standard pin format.
Does it work on Pinterest carousels (multi-image pins)?
Partially. We can typically extract the first image of a carousel, but not all images at once. To save other images in a carousel, view them individually on Pinterest and try each URL.
Does it work on Pinterest Lens (image search) results?
Pinterest Lens results are typically standard pins under the hood, so yes — once you click into a specific pin from Lens results, copy its URL and use our tool normally.
What about Pinterest Live or Pinterest TV content?
These use streaming formats that aren’t downloadable as single files. Our tool will tell you when a specific URL has this limitation.
Does it work on URLs from the Pinterest mobile app?
Yes. The “Copy Link” option in the Pinterest app produces standard pinterest.com URLs that our tool handles correctly.
Does the tool work for Pinterest content from outside the US?
Yes. Our tool works with international Pinterest domains (pinterest.co.uk, pinterest.de, pinterest.fr, etc.). The underlying content is the same regardless of which regional domain you copy the URL from.
Tool Behavior
Why does the page have a dark mode toggle?
Some users prefer dark interfaces, especially when using the tool at night or for extended periods. Click the sun/moon icon in the top-right of the tool to switch. Your preference is saved in your browser, so it persists across visits.
Why do I see a tool-specific page when I already use the homepage?
Each tool page (image, GIF, MP4, 4K) is optimized for its specific format. The homepage handles videos primarily; the dedicated pages have UI tweaks and information that’s relevant to that format. You can use whichever feels most natural — they all work.
What’s the difference between the homepage downloader and the MP4 downloader?
Functionally, very little — both output MP4 video files. The MP4 page exists separately for users searching specifically for “Pinterest to MP4” and for users who want detail about the format itself. Each page has slightly different supplementary content tailored to its keyword target.
Does the tool keep a history of my downloads?
No, not on our end. Your browser may remember the downloaded files in its download history, but we have no record of what you’ve downloaded.
Is there a desktop or mobile app version?
No. The website is the entire product. We’ve intentionally not built native apps because:
- The browser version works on every platform
- Apps require app store approval (which often blocks downloader tools)
- App distribution adds complexity without adding value
